We have now three compulsory voting: elections, administrative, referendum on electoral law. Common sense suggests amalgamated into a single term. But the government decided to combine into a single date only the first two consultations. It appears determined to hold on to separate the referendum vote. Vote another day at a cost to the community of about 400 million euro. In difficult times such as these would be good to use it for other purposes.
The Government has decided to combine the local elections and European elections on a single date, on 6-7 June 2009. But it appears willing to take a separate vote on the referendum on electoral law. Since that many parties are against the referendum and intend to do so fail, it is very likely that in the end will not be allowed citizens to travel once to the polls to elect their representatives to the European Parliament, in local authorities affected by the vote and to express themselves on the referendum question.
